Dresden pertains to a region in Germany known for its porcelain production prior to being bombed and destroyed during World War II. Eventually, some of the manufacturers, like Volkstedt, did resume production of their exquisite figurines.

Dresden also pertains to the style of dipping fabric lace in porcelain, whereby it is disintegrates in the kiln and leaves the porcelain image of lace.
