Antique porcelain figurine Sitzendorf, lady with tambourine
Beautiful porcelain figure of a girl playing the tambourine. Near her feet lies a sheep, an idyllic composition often present in German porcelain. An excellent example of the mastery achieved by Sitzendorf at its heights in the early 20th century. An influx of artists from regions in Germany prompted both revitalisation of older styles and creative innovation which we can see in this piece. Note the bold use of overlapping styles to the clothes and the colours.
Sitzendorfer Porzellanmanufaktur was established by Wilhelm Liebmann in 1850. Most of the manufactory was demolished in 1858 in a blast, but reopened later and continued to run until the second world war. Excellent condition, no defects or damage.
